2026 Master Gardener Extension Volunteer Program
The Georgia Master Gardener Extension Volunteer Program offers many opportunities to enhance your horticultural expertise and make new gardening friends as you become involved in community projects. This program involves horticultural service training that requires a minimum of 50 volunteer hours to earn certification during the first year and 25 volunteer hours every year thereafter, along with 10 hours of continuing education to stay in good standing.?

The Master Gardener Extension Volunteer (MGEV) program offers in-depth horticultural training to individuals who wish to share their knowledge and support Extension educational programs in the community.
Classes & Training
Participants receive classroom instruction and hands-on training covering a wide range of horticultural topics. Training includes lectures, study sessions, and assessments to ensure volunteers are prepared to assist with Extension projects.
Commitment & Requirements
Volunteers are expected to complete the required coursework, pass examinations, and contribute volunteer service hours to earn certification as a Georgia Master Gardener Extension Volunteer.
Enrollment
Class size is limited, and applications are required for participation. A program fee covers instructional materials, the Georgia Master Gardener Handbook, name tags, supplies, and a certificate of completion once training and volunteer hours are fulfilled.
Volunteer Opportunities
MGEVs support Extension programs by helping with educational events, community projects, and outreach efforts that promote research-based gardening and environmental stewardship.
