4-H Youth Development

What is 4-H?

4-H is a community of young?people (K-12th grade) across America who learn leadership, citizenship and life skills through hands-on explorative projects.??4-H is the nation’s largest youth development organization.??4-H is led by the U.S.?Department of Agriculture’s Cooperative Extension?System, a nation-wide,? educational?network of land grant universities bringing research-based information to citizens of all ages.? 4-H is a ‘learning by doing’ organization that offers more than 100 project areas for young people to showcase their work.

In it’s early beginnings, 4-H taught youth agriculture and home economic skills.? Today, 4-H members can participate in many project areas such as computer science, marine ecology, performing arts,? food preparation, shooting sports, companion animals, safety, health, public speaking, robotics, and more!

Who is eligible?

Any youth (Kindergarten - Grade 12) may join. Liberty County 4-H has more than 1,000 members.

Where does 4-H meet?

Many Liberty County 4th and 5th grade students participate in monthly in-school club meetings.? However, during the school year, we also host additional after school club meetings for all age groups!

  • K-3rd grade students: Second Tuesday of each month 4:30-6:00 pm.
  • 4th - 6th grade students:? Third Tuesday of each month 5:00 - 6:00pm.
  • 7th-12th grade students: First Tuesday of each month 5:00-6:00 pm.

All after-school meetings are held at the Extension Office located at 100 South Main Street, Suite 1200 in Hinesville.?

How much does it cost?

There is no charge for general membership. Optional activities and some specialty clubs may have a nominal charge.

What about parents?

Parents are an important part of 4-H activities and are always welcome.?
