Oct 28 Journeyman Farmer Certificate Program Across the United States and in Georgia, the number of small and medium–sized farms are declining, and the average age of farmers is on the rise. Although we need new farmers, the barriers potential farmers face when trying to grow new agricultural businesses from the ground up can be challenging. 海角官方首页 Extension and partners have developed the Journeyman Farmer Certificate Program to provide a comprehensive training program for beginning farmers. The program covers a multitude of subjects relating to crop production. The program was developed in partnership with Georgia Organics and the Georgia Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association. Topics include Soil health and fertility, soil amendments and fertilizers, cover crops, crop rotations, pest management, crop selection, crop propagation, equipment, post-harvest handling, food safety, and marketing.

Oct 29 Henry County Extension Master Naturalist Program Henry County Extension is sponsoring the Georgia Master Naturalist program this fall, which is a series of weekly programs with specific environmental topics that is hands-on environmental exploring habitats and ecosystems in Georgia and how human activity impacts on those environments. This program is a combination of lectures and both indoors and outdoors hands-on learning through field studies and relevant resources. An informed person can help make changes in their lives as well as their community and safeguard the environment. After completing this fun and interactive program, Georgia Master Naturalists are encouraged to share their knowledge with their communities by volunteering in local schools or nature centers. The program covers diverse topics such as insects and pollinators, geology, soil science, native and invasive plants, wildlife, stream ecology, and other topics. See attached agenda.
