Agriculture and Natural Resources

The Agriculture and Natural Resources agent for 海角官方首页 Cooperative Extension in Pierce County assists clientele with plant health, integrated pest management and cultural management practices by delivering university-based research that underscores environmental stewardship and capitalizes on production. On-farm research trials are conducted in Pierce County to evaluate production practices, unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) technologies, herbicide applications in blueberries, insecticide application for blueberry pests, forestry herbicide trials, blueberry disease trials and blueberry variety trials. Agriculture in Pierce County has a farm gate value of $60 million annually.

4-H Youth Development

Pierce County 4-H: Growing Knowledge, Skills, and Future Leaders

Georgia 4-H emphasizes the importance of youth gaining knowledge, life skills, and attitudes that prepare them to become educated, independent, and contributing citizens. Pierce County 4-H is committed to these core values by integrating agriculture and natural resources, communication skills, Leadership skills, and career readiness into its 4-H Youth Development Program.

Pierce County 4-H has a strong presence in the community, offering meaningful opportunities for youth development. Cloverleaf 4-H members learn about the importance of agriculture in their daily lives through engaging, in-class meetings. Each meeting includes hands-on lessons and activities aligned with Georgia Science Standards, encouraging students to explore and discover the world of agriculture in a fun and educational way.

Junior and Senior 4-H’ers expand their agricultural knowledge and personal growth through experiences such as livestock shows, Ag Day, and the annual 4-H/FFA Hog Show, where students demonstrate responsibility, animal care, and agricultural skills. In partnership with Pierce County FFA, a yearly Poultry Show further develops students’ knowledge of poultry science while building confidence and communication abilities.

Georgia 4-H District Project Achievement offers youth the chance to find their spark through public speaking and project-based learning, allowing them to grow in confidence and skill. Pierce County 4-H also celebrates the ongoing success of its BB and Air Rifle Teams, known for their consistent first-place titles across back-to-back competitive seasons.

Through these diverse and engaging programs, Pierce County 4-H continues to serve the community and help youth thrive.
