Our Impact
Making A Difference in Our County
University of Georgia Cooperative Extension is working hard for its constituents. The following are examples of Extension’s impact in the county over the past year.
Agriculture and Natural Resources
Walton County Extension continues our mission of delivering education and resources through science-based programs focusing on agriculture and the environment. Walton County Extension provides services to all Walton County communities including water testing, feed and forage nutrient analysis, soil testing, and plant disease identification. Walton County residents submitted over 750 water and soil samples in 2024. Additionally, with the help of Master Gardener Extension Volunteers, Walton County Extension can?expand its outreach. This is shown through local educational programs offered by our volunteers. In 2024, Walton County Extension presented over 40 presentations, free to the public, totaling 649 attendees. We also welcome the public to visit our Extension office to tour our Experiential Learning Garden and greenhouse. We look forward to continuing to support our Walton County community through personalized services like workshops, classes, consultations, certifications, and educational resources.?
4-H Youth Development
Walton County 4-H programs are offered for youth to learn and excel in leadership, citizenship, public speaking and critical-thinking skills. Walton County 4-H could not have been as successful as it was in 2024 without the support of our volunteers, who donated over 1,500 hours of their time, valued at over $40,000. Partnerships with the Walton County School District and Social Circle City Schools allow our 4-H programs to provide experiential learning programs that compliment school curriculum, STEAM initiatives, and helps to increase student writing-test scores. Walton County 4-H serves youth in grades 4–12, and monthly club meetings reach 1300 youth. Specialty clubs reach an additional 275, educating them on topics like nutrition and cooking skills.
Family and Consumer Sciences
Walton County Family and Consumer Sciences has completed 85 Family and Consumer Sciences related presentations and events with over 800 contacts. Education focused on nutrition and healthy living including the Radon Project, but included ServSafe, Estate planning, Financial Management, and Healthy Homes.
